My boyfriend would like to become a firefighter, but he was arrested last year for doing credit frau

he made that stupid mistake, and paid for it of course (jail time). he has all it takes to become a firefighter, specially because he would like to serve the community in a positive manner to try to repair the demade he has coused.

do you think he could get in having that on his background?

My boyfriend would like to become a firefighter, but he was arrested last year for doing credit fraud?

Highly unlikely. Since he was only arrested last year, he%26#039;s probably still on probation. Most government jobs are closed to people with many different types of misdemeanors. For example, a conviction for a simple fight, as a misdemeanor, results in a a lifelong firearms ban which eliminates any law enforcement work.

Your boyfriend will likely have to complete probation successfully. Following that, he will have to look into whatever pardoning procedures you state has. If the fraud was a felony and is very recent, a pardon is unlikely. Even if the pardon were granted, it could take a very long time to get the signature. You should also know that an expungement does not conceal a conviction from a government background check.

He will not be accepted. They have to have very clean records.

I wouldn%26#039;t worry, he%26#039;ll fit right in.

LOL to above poster. I wasn%26#039;t going to say it....

He doesn%26#039;t have all it takes. He has a serious criminal record, relating to theft and moral terpitude. No dept I know of will hire him, especially not so soon. If it was years later, he may be able to show change and a positive record since.

Plus, in many states, a felony conviction bars you from holding a public office, which is what a FF, police officer etc is.

He loses nothing by applying, but he shouldn%26#039;t get his hopes up. Most jobs have plenty of qualified candidates and why take a thief or criminal when the next twenty guys (or gals) are perfect. Its not worth the risk to them. You live and work closely with others and are in situations where you can morally make bad choices,(like peoples homes, businesses etc) something he has a track record of doing badly.

No way is he gonna get any type of job for any government run agency until his record has been clear for a minimum of 5 years %26amp; he can show written proof that he has completed all the terms of the court %26amp; the judgement that was set down in his case. No doubt he is still on probation %26amp; he must complete that before being accepted into the Academy. As far as I know, he can%26#039;t even become a Wildland Firefighter with this hanging over his head. He should have thought about this before. You might think he%26#039;d make a good employee, but it shows that he lacks strength of character, which is one big character flaw that would put him at the top of the high risk category. Remember, he%26#039;s going to become part of a team %26amp; his actions effect the other team members. He should start off with counseling %26amp; get his record cleaned up in order to prove he has changed his way of thinking %26amp; living.

I%26#039;d advise him to speak to a Captain %26amp; find out if he%26#039;s wasting his time wanting to get into this line of work.

Now that he has a felony on his record he will have a hard time getting any good jobs never mind going for a firefighters position.

But it never hurts to try all they can say is no right so I say try anyway you never know whats around the corner.
